Golf. An old man's sport. Wandering around hitting a few balls. How hard can it be? I like trying new things so when my boyfriend told me about a beginners group for ladies at Hazel Grove Golf Club where he was a member I said; I'd give it a go. Just for a fun. Not expecting to take it any further.
A year on and I have my own set of clubs, new bag, ball marker, balls and so the list goes on. All the gear and no idea you may be thinking. Well yes there's probably some of that. It takes more than a year to master this sport. Some would say you never do. While I am content that I've hit the ball in the air in the right general direction, my boyfriend is unhappy because the ball hasn't landed on the green where he wanted it to. While it is something we can do together, most of the time we don't actually play together. I have made a new set of friends from the beginner sessions and now regularly play on a Sunday afternoon with them. I'm looking forward to my first weekend away with the Ladies section this summer and hope to get a handicap this spring. I'll even be taking the golf clubs away on honeymoon this year!
I have been surprised at how much I've taken to the sport. I like being outdoors in the fresh air, I like the challenge of the game and knowing that slowly but surely I am getting better as time goes by, and I like the social aspect. It's not all old men! I enjoy playing with the ladies each week but the other members at the club and the pros in the shop are always friendly and welcoming for new people giving the sport a go. So, why don't you?

I am organising my usual pre-season warmer sessions over at Adlington Driving Range throughout February and March.

Tuesday, 7 March / Catch up session (6 till 7,7 till 8 or 8 till 9pm)

The cost is £30 for the four weeks. All you need to do is buy yourself a bucket of balls each week, the last week is a catch up for people who may miss a session.
