Winter is the new Summer!
Another successful 6 months of winter league competition has drawn to a close with the end of competition winter league weekend away in North Wales. A great weekend away playing Prestatyn and Conway with North Wales thrown in the mix, we owe a massive thank you to this year's organisers Mike Stone and Mr Vice Captain. In usual fashion Mr President was one of the last to bed, R*y C*****n drank nothing but cider, and one victim fell asleep in the bar and was buried in chairs.
It is only now that we have realised the hard bit doesn't stop after the last match in the super league and what a sterling job previous organisers have achieved. Finding a venue to handle 60 golfers with golf courses to challenge us all - including one for a Saturday, not too far away and all within a budget - becomes quite a challenge.
With this in mind we would like to announce the 2017/18 winter league weekend away venue as Forest Pines Golf Resort near Scunthorpe on the weekend of 19th-22nd April 2018. It will be 10 years since Booth and Stewardson took us to this venue, 10 years since Stone & Stone won the event (who have re-joined forces this year) and with 3 loops of 9 holes played in a variety of orders to make a good weekends golf, no doubt we will be hearing "shot Dad" more than once!
We have managed to secure a good package for all, including meals on the Friday and Saturday night, 20% bar discount and 3 good sets of tee times, playing the best layout of Forest - Pines on Friday and Sunday with Pines - Beeches on the Saturday.
During our endeavors of finding a venue we have been in contact with the winners of the Harlech Trophy, Bandits' Mullen and Sutherland, and managed to secure Lindrick golf course for the Thursday for those wishing to play the Harlech Trophy. The venue is in the top 60 courses in the UK with a very enjoyable layout and is just over half way to Forest Pines. We are limited to 56 players for the event on the Thursday. The price for the full weekend is just under £400 for twin rooms and deposits are being taken now to secure your place!
The transfer window is now open with a few people looking for partners, so get your deals done early, the sheet is already up on the notice board! If you want to play in the competition for the first time or need a partner, get your name on the sheet, speak with Andy or the Pro and join the best way to spend a Sunday morning!
Best of luck for 2017, have a great summer, where ever you're playing (Pete!) And let's continue to make this competition one of the best in the club.
