Now happening at HGGC! Dear members, my name's George Bresnahan and I will be the new Sports Therapist based at Hazel Grove Golf Club. I have a BSC Hons Degree in Sports Therapy and I am also a registered member of the Society of Sports Therapists. Over the next year I will also be working towards a research masters degree which I am tailoring towards golf injury and prevention strategies. My role consists of providing injury assessment, treatment and rehabilitation for all members to aid recovery and enhance performance. The range of treatments can include manual therapy, trigger point therapy, frictions, sports massage and exercise therapy. I will be available for individual assessments and treatments, but I will be looking to have weekly group sessions which can be tailored to different components of fitness such as strength, flexibility, power or endurance (All of which will be golf specific). If you are just feeling tight in any areas I will also be available for sports massage appointments as well as prescribing personalized rehabilitation programs, golf specific strength and conditioning programs and of course any general questions or queries will be answered. I will be arranging a presentation one evening within the next few weeks which you are all welcome to come along to. The presentation itself will cover a little bit about myself and what I will be doing around the golf club and what services I will be providing, BUT most importantly I will cover how it will best benefit you as a golfer to stay free of injury and enhance your performance through regular and dedicated training programs. Feel free to get in touch with me at any time on the following contact details below and please give my Facebook page a like and share! Contact details: Kind Regards, George Bresnahan BSC, MSST.

On the course... The weekend finished with Hazel Grove playing in the now annual Inter-club Centenary Match at Sale, along with Davenport and Northenden. As is the custom the home team wins, makes the speeches and wishes the best to next year’s event holder, that being Davenport. We did have one notable success with Lady Captain a winner on the day, beating all other ladies pairings with J. Hare – so well done to both of you. 44 points was a great score on the day. I played alongside Mr Vause and we did not feature in either the reckoning, or the speeches! Well done, however, to the whole team for continuing to make this an annual feature, and thanks to Malcolm Shannon for his exemplary organising skills for getting us there in one piece. This Saturday’s competition – the 18th – is playing for the Charity Cup, and it will have added interest as we host England & Wales Blind Golf (EWBG) for the day. Or rather I am using the day to raise awareness to the beneficiaries of one of my chosen charities, by offering all members the opportunity to experience what it is like to be a partially sighted or blind golfer. I will be running a blindfold putting competition and a blindfold nearest the pin competition throughout the day. There will be complimentary vouchers for the winners, with the opportunity to play at one of many local courses with three golfing buddies as a prize. There will also be a normal NTP on the 11th, with other prizes being offered by EWBG. All I ask in return is a small donation at the time of entering the day’s competition to go to this great charity. It’s all about the golf. Other news! Unfortunately, I have a had to cancel the proposed Captain’s Away Day to Lindrick Golf Club, as the numbers just didn’t add up to make it viable. Please accept my apologies. However, watch this space as I intend to set up a stay-at-home-instead event, themed around having fun on the golf course. This will be open to all members and may include some food. Elsewhere, “Congratulations” to Joshua Nadin who won one of the Junior Majors – the Jack Lees Trophy – on Sunday, with a great score of 68. “Congratulations” also to R Carter, Martin Stevens, Marc Stevens and Ray Palmer who scored a breathtaking 93 points to win the ‘I AM AM your MAN, MAN, MAN, MAN’ competition on Saturday. I think they were playing a different course to me! Finally a personal request. As much as I have enjoyed my year as your Captain, many of you will know my memory fades very quickly. To this end I don’t have as many photographs of the great things that have happened, or been captured on digital film as I might like. Really! I intend to make a collage poster for future posterity, and would be very grateful if you have any snaps you would care to share (Of a GOLF NATURE, please), if you can forward them to me on - iain492@btinternet.com. Thanks as always, your Captain. Skip.

Here, there and everywhere |
We are faced with a whole range of scenarios out on the course, some of which we practice regularly and others that we don’t. When you consider the different types of shots you hit around the greens, it really does highlight how versatile your wedges need to be. |
Versatility is key We ask a lot from our wedges, from opening up the face to hit high lob/flop shots to moving the ball back in our stance to play low flying pitches and everything in between. It’s therefore obvious that you should be playing something you’re comfortable with from any spot around the greens. If you’re yet to find that wedge, come and try the Callaway Mack Daddy 4 here in the shop. It comes in lots of lofts so we can discuss your wedge make up, plus we can test the different sole grinds to see which ones best suit the shots you like to play. |
