A total of 37 players played in the 10 matches and altogether 43 players were invited to play, from a team manager’s perspective it has been an interesting first season. Clearly at the start of the season we had no idea how the season, for both the Div 1 and Div 2 teams would pan out because as far as I knew we hadn’t played any of the other teams before.
There have been a number of factors that would seem to affected results. In terms of our home matches, certainly having the white tees as close to the plates as possible gave us a huge advantage as I realised later on in the season; the Div 2 team seemed to ‘cash in’ on this more than the Div 1 team. Next year we will be maximising the length of the course from the very first fixture. Next year I will be starting our season in May rather than April as we were still on winter tees for our first home match which made the course more playable for the opposition. In addition, some of the courses were quite quirky (Glossop would be a good example), and we would know what to expect next time.
Overall, I think it has been a successful season in terms of us ‘dipping our toes’ into the world of singles match play League Golf and broadening our experience of competitive golf on other local courses...some of which most of us haven’t played on before.
As far as next season is concerned, I am quite prepared to continue organising the teams should everyone be ok with that. In general terms the communication between us seemed to work pretty well. There will always be occasions when it gets somewhat frantic during those instances where last minute/on the day changes are required, but generally I think we all stepped up to the plate in an excellent fashion.
If anyone has any suggestions for improving our way forward for the next season please let me know.
Best regards Steve Volp
