Winter League Winter League round up From Mike Booth and Richard Blain: Well that's it for the Preliminary Round. There were a number of final matches played on the last day today with various scenarios still possible. An intriguing final day in Division A saw all the Super league pretenders playing each other to determine final placings. Captain and Pro came through their tricky match with the Stewardson's with a hard fought half. A result that sees them into the Super league, but condemns the latter to the Plate. Prof and Plod (Withers and Baines) also had a tight match against Moss and Jones, with Chris Heyes substituting for Jones. A result for the latter would have been enough to force them into the Plate. However, defeat saw P & P move forward and dump Moss and Jones somewhat unexpectedly into Division 3. Also qualifying for the Plate are Levis and Thorley. Although having no game today it reported that Phill Thorley is already in the practice net preparing for the next match. Division B had The Stones' sweating on results today. After winning their catch up match last week, The Silver Foxes (Leah & Rogerson) only needed to win against Brown and Barlow in their final game to progress to the Super league. It wasn't to be for them however, with Brown and stand in Mike Booth chasing The Foxes down the back nine to enable The Stones’ to join Tetlow and Greenall in the Super league. Both the Foxes and Brown/Barlow combo securing their places in the Plate. With The VV's (Volp & Vause) who were demonstrating some horrific sartorial elegance (the fashion police have been notified), losing out to Cole and Booth in the mid-table battle. The result sees both pairs finish in Division 3. Division C had the most to resolve on the final day and the most matches being played. As predicted PP and The Shark came from out of the pack to hit the top of the division at the perfect time with the defeat of Kirk & Garner. With Team Udall/Hunt also winning against Glazier and Tew with a dramatic last putt of the match from stand-in Tim Johnson. The results set up the final match of the group, with Team Udall/Hunt playing what was a group decider against Kirk & Garner in a second game of the day - Team Hunt/Johnson coming through to take the final place in the Super league and condemning Kirk & Garner to the Plate. Major & Marshall will line up in the Plate for the second half having already finished their matches the previous week. They could only sit and watch the pack going past them on the final day. The only match outstanding in Division D also had top of the table implication. With Rogers and Mobley already assured Super league for the second half, it probably wasn't surprising that they took their eye off the ball in their last match versus Jackson & Lord. A somewhat unexpected win for Jackson & Lord was good enough to propel them from sixth in the group up to second and into the Super league - The result much to the disgust of Heyes and Walters who find themselves in the plate as a result. Booth and Blain make up the final placing in the Plate having previously scrambled in a count back placing. As reminder the second half of the season will commence on the 3rd February with fixtures issued next week. Second Half Groups are confirmed as follows:
