Winter League update from Mike Booth There were only a limited number of matches played on this re-arranged match day. A number of teams were clearly recovering from being 'loved up' on the Saturday evening. Another glorious morning with fantastic conditions and the course being in tip top condition meant that those who made it out got their monies worth. With membership fees now being due, a little known new membership category has been introduced. This is the Net Practice Saver Sub. Phill Thorley continues to take advantage of this option - the hope of this facility becoming floodlit soon will add greater value to Phill's game in months to come. Unfortunately Phill continues to dispel the adage that 'practice makes perfect'. However, playing partner Andy Levis held his nerve on the last hole to demand that opponents Booth and Blain 'putted out' for the half - unfortunately they didn't! One half of the Shannon and Dootson was holding court in the bar, wallowing in victory (and red wine) after an unexpected victory over The Vice and The whistling Benson. Afterwards, Malc was keen to heap praise on his playing partner Bill Dootson - who didn't turn up! Stand in June Dawson giving food for thought for Malc on future team selection. You may need to look twice at the table, but they now top their division!
Glazier and Tew were keen to promote the fact that they had gifted victory to Beswick and Allen on order to celebrate the birthday of the latter (Happy Birthday Peter). However, it's becoming increasingly difficult to determine whether they are gifting victories for their opponents for good such reasons or because they are just playing rubbish. With Cole and Booth winning yesterday against Quirk and Bennett to maintain the pace with Beswick and Allen in The Slicer's Division, the only other game played here was Moss and Jones savaging and The VV's (Volp and Vause, who are also now 100% - in the red)!
Walter's and Heyes won the big match up in The Plate, beating the Major and Marshall, this result seeing them top the table after two games. With Captain and Pro losing last week to the now 'Rolling Stones', two matches were completed today. 'Pot Hunting' Johnson and partner Hunt defeated Tetlow and Greenall. It looked though that Ross had aged somewhat following the previous evenings birthday celebrations (he looks more like his dad every day). Watch out in The Super League because PP and The Shark are circling! Their first outing against Prof and Plod saw them take maximum points in a somewhat non-confrontational encounter - should be a quiet week for me then! That's all for this week. Click here to see the table of results. Week three next week should see the front runners of each group starting to show. Cheers, Mike
