Mike Booths Winter League Round Up - Drat, Drat & Double Drat
They've been quietly keeping their own council over recent weeks, but victory over Captain and Pro has seen The People's Champions (AKA Dastardly and Mutley) finally move into top position in the Super League, with The Rolling Stones not in action this week, slipping to second place. A fine catch up win last week for Bluto Hunt and The Pot Hunting Johnson also over Captain and Pro (everyone's favourite opposition at the moment) has propelled them to third place and set up a show down afternoon encounter with the leaders. Also in the group, The Young Pretenders Tetlow (the younger looking version) and Greenall won against Prof and Plod to haul themselves into a mid-table position.
The clear favourites - and becoming The Untouchables in the Plate are now Brown and Barlow who maintained their 100% record over Baby Bear and The Not-so-magnificent Walters. The Stewardson's continued with their up and down results with a comfortable win over the embattled holders Booth & Blain. It was the battle of the Servicemen with Marshall and The Major taking the honours from Captain Kirk and 'acting Sapper Hughes'. This result coupled with their catch up win over Booth and Blain the previous day has kept them in the running for the Plate (although the reference to Marshall and running is obviously somewhat incongruous to most).
The match of the day came in The Slicers Division with Taylor and Stewardson up against The Twilighter's Volp and Vause. With the VV' s trailing 'dormie three' the game seemed all over. However, the master grinders dug deep with famous 'half' under the setting evening sun.
Reports from the drawn match between Booth / Cole and Glazier / Tew have suggested that Mr Glazier had an inspired day, with quality shots all over the place (for those people re-reading the last statement - this is correct and not a miss-print). The Alas Moss and Jones pairing won the remaining match in the division over Pheiffer and Parkes, who were probably keeping their powder dry for their afternoon double header against the leaders Beswick and Allen (or was it their fixture discussion with Cole & Booth?)
In the Hacker's division The Whistling Benson and The Vice completed their fixtures with defeat to the now joint leaders Bailey and Stevens. However, they did have the satisfaction of victory over the Whites' in one of the other catch up results last week. Shannon and Dootson are still arguing as to who was most instrumental in their win over Knight and Slater (it depends who you speak to as to which version you get!) The result does see them up to the heady heights of third. When going to press, the result of the Dog and Ivor against The White's is unknown - a search party was being organised - rumour has it they were 'out' behind the Twilighters. Meanwhile leaders Tallents and Walters had to sit out and watch this week, having the satisfaction that they wouldn't be displaced at the top. With two official weeks to go until we crown the champions of each division, a reminder that all fixtures must be completed on the morning of 14th April. We would also ask that all efforts are made to attend in the bar after these final fixtures, when we can applaud the victors (or boo loudly, whichever is your preference).
One final note. In the event of a countback situation, then the countback fixtures will be based upon the originally issued second half fixtures. Due to extreme weather we have had to move two of the official weeks en bloc to different dates, however, the original dates will take precedence. The results sheet will be updated as we approach the final week.
Regards Mike (Eagle on First!)
