Week 3 – The Swinging Skirts Hinge & Bracket Hand Out A Whipping
With Worzel unable to find his golf head this morning (or anything else for that matter) the ‘The Carer’ (without The Caree) eagerly stepped into the breach for his first outing of the season to partner The Crowman against Hinge and Bracket. The ladies were in merciless form however and handed out a severe whipping to their beleaguered opponents. The Carer apparently quite enjoyed the experience, if not the match.
In the same group Muttley and Mongo continue to look ominous as they hit top of the table, easily brushing aside the challenge of The Taxman and Keyworth.
Hallows and Clayton had a much needed first victory in their local derby against The Old Time Music Hall Impresario’s. Meanwhile Zebra number 2’s decision to bring in The Vicar as substitute paid dividends this week, with a tough win over The Smiling Assassins - Tallents and Walters.
The top result in Group B today, was most notably Stand and Hilda’s closely fought victory over the W/L holders and currently winless ‘Shot Dad’ team (proving that this is not an easy competition to defend)!
Alas Moss and Jones have now quietly amassed three wins from three to lead the table and they look to be one of the teams to beat this year – The faltering Silver Foxes having no answers today for their illustrious opposition.
The lads from Lilliput had an interesting game today against the Noisy Scouse Git and The Why Aye Man. After a tough encounter…strangely - Brian Street almost won single handed (explain that one)! He finally ran out of steam after obviously getting tied down by The Lilliputians.
Great win today for Captain and Pro, with an ‘up and down’ by Rowler to win it at eighteen and finally see off Winless Stewardson and Taylor (not that Rowler mentioned it though)!
Full turn out in Division A today. Firstly, Lad & Dad Stewardson having an impressive win over The Titans Green & Tetlow (there’s been some evidence banded about to suggest that JT had to play from some precarious positions, which possibly explains the result). Previous leaders Quirk and Bennett slipping to a first defeat against Denims and The Tuck – Tuck suggesting that they “finished them off just before the Ladies teed off” (I’m guessing that Denims must have been in terrific form)!
With The Pot Hunter and Bluto Hunt too strong for The Servicemen, there was an exciting halved match between Private Eye Perry Martine and The BBL, who couldn’t quite get past Oddjob and Young Charles Kendall.
The Chuckle Brothers continue to struggle with a third straight defeat - this time to The Master Baker Ivor and Big Stuart, who in The Dog’s absence won their first outing of the season.
Not forgetting Division D. Early finish for The Twighlighters today (yes you’ve read that correctly), Lord Jackson crashing to an ignominious defeat. Meanwhile PP and The Shark (ones to watch) continue their 100% start with a polished win over Prof and Plod (VAR not necessary)!
The Middle Aged Pretenders had too much experience for Bailey and Waller to stay in the mix. At the same time Skepper and Wilkinson recorded their first Winter League victory beating Bridge and Lee Elwers – congrats to them!
The final game of the day saw Big Chubber and The Captain up against Bert and Ernie (Scott & Rob). With the game evenly poised with three to play. Captain Kirk was recalled to ‘the bridge’ leaving his ‘able deputy’ to ‘see out the final three holes’ – and see it out he did (much to everyone’s surprise), including a birdy in the last three – simply Magnificent! They now top this group with PP and Shark.
Free week next week, but no report. Quite a few games going on however (including the wheeling out of the Caree on his day release).
Please update the score sheet of all results. No report next week – rest day.
