Walker Cup heartache This event pits the best male American amateur golfers against their GB&I counterparts in a tense two-day battle, similar to the Ryder Cup. Great Britain & Ireland fought to the bitter end against a stubborn American outfit but sadly came up just short in Florida over the weekend. We can all try to fight it – we can put the kettle on and casually ask ‘How’s he getting on?’ over our shoulder – but ultimately there’s no denying that most golf fans were delighted to see Rory McIlroy back in the winners’ circle at Quail Hollow.
