Snow Storm hits our course on 29th January. The whole of Greater Manchester came to a halt. The Working Party had to abandon the road kerbs, as the temperature plummeted . Concrete will not set unless the ambient temperature is 4*C.

The road was finally finished on April 7th. 2015. The verges have been dressed with root zone soil and sown with grass seed. One final touch, we intend to highlight the edges of the road with “Cats-Eyes” hopefully to give everyone good vision of the boundaries of the road at night.

Many thanks to the entire working party

Please observe the STOP signs at each end of the new road. The road is to be treated as a “One-Track Road”—so if a vehicle is on the road, please give way to on-coming traffic. NO PASSING. Be Aware of Golfers on 1st Tees.

HGGC Council are extremely grateful to all members of the 300 Club, who have funded this massive project. The work has been very arduous, and time consuming due to the bad weather and very low temperatures. Thanks to Bill Dootson, for projecting this task. The Working Party excelled all expectations in their diligence to finishing the road. The quality of the workmanship is there for all to see. Nick Taylor was our site controller who ensured every kerb was laid correctly, a brilliant job. Nearly 30 tonnes of concrete was mixed by hand, for the footings of the kerbs.

I feel very humbled to be part of the Working Party, supported by Greens Staff who have completed many tasks during recent years, but the road has been the largest project. HGGC Council and golf members THANK-YOU ALL.

The Summer will see the WP working on many projects around the Course— All paths and bridges to be refurbished. Astro turf utilised in some areas. The external walls of the white buildings opposite main entrance to be painted. Trees to be cut down, around the course, and logged for re-sale. Plus many more. The WP always need more helpers,if you can spare any of your valuable time, please come and join us on a Tuesday or Thursday 0830—-

Hi Guys,

I hope you all had a good weekend over Easter- possibly got a good game of golf or two while the weather has been so nice!

I wanted to talk today about the use of a Foam Roller. (You may have heard of one). If not, basically what it is, is a cylinder foam tube that is used to "iron out your muscles" so to speak. It's like having your own sports massager whenever you want it.

So why do I need to use it you ask?

Over long periods of time, both active and non-active muscles become tight and knotted. You know the feeling of a tight muscle, it can be quite painful to live with. The foam roller helps address the tightness in the muscles by ironing out the knots and adhesions that build up over time in the muscle.

It can take as little as 10 minutes per day to work on your mobility and flexibility which I think is very important. Not only will this make feel great and perform at your best each day, you'll be less likely to have any injuries- your body is more "flexible". Therefore you'll bend….not snap. Bit harsh :)

This rather inexpensive piece is a must have if you ask me and can be bought from any sports or most leisure shops.

I wrote a blog post not long ago which you can check out by clicking here.

Click here to view a short video of how to use a foam roller.

This is for cycling but is the same principals for golf too.

Have a great week,

Your Coach
