I am organising another 'chip and sip' event on Friday 14, August. Nine holes all set out to be within 100 yards from the green giving you chance to work on your short game! The competition is open to ladies and men. Teams of four, best two scores to count on each hole. If you have any friends that me be interested in giving golf a try this is the perfect way to try it! Have a drink and bite to eat in the clubhouse after the game. Tee times from 5.30pm onwards. If your interested in taking part please click here to get in contact or ring the pro shop on 0161 483 7272.
Greens Update July/August 2015
The last month has seen a big improvement in the greens, but although there has been the improvement, greens 6, 8 and some peripherals still need further attention. The following work is to be undertaken over the next 5 weeks.
Recent work
Greens 6, 8 and the putting green have been micro hollow tined and top-dressed with sand to help with the thatch dilution. Completed 16 July
Greens 6, 8 to be inter-seeded to help with re-establishment of sward Greens with peripheral damage were tined, and over-seeded to re-establish the sward. Completed 23 July with help from WP.
Upcoming Work
All greens to receive a light dusting of sand prior to end of the month of July (hopefully within the next 6 days).
All greens to be given a light liquid tonic prior to the maintenance week commencing 10th August.
During maintenance week the greens will be micro hollow-tined ,top-dressed with root zone and inter-seeded as required (weather permitting). If the weather is against us we will do as many greens as possible focusing on holes 4 to 13 first.
All greens will be monitored in case of any outbreak of disease General course maintenance to continue as usual.
Lastly I have offered my resignation as Greens Director, due to a major change in my health. I am very sorry to leave the council at this time. The Greens are making a good recovery and should be back to normal by autumn. I would like to thank all the council for their support, in what has been a difficult year, I hope the next Greens Director receives the full backing of the council in the quest to make our course the best in the surrounding area.
Ian Sandels HGGC Greens Director - signing off.
