Putting tips from Lee Sullivan How do you aim your putts?
Get the feeling you don't sink your fair share of putts on the greens? It could simply be down to your current pre-putt routine, or lack of one! Next time you have a chance to visit the practice putting green, why not start to build a putting routine which will help you to aim more accurately along your chosen putt line.
Firstly start by choosing the line that you intend to roll your ball to the hole. It will be on the rare occassion that you face a straight putt, but imagine if you did, try and visualise your chosen putt line so it extends through the hole by around 8 inches. I see far too many golfers who leave their putts short of the hole and inevitably don't hole the putt. Give the ball a chance to roll past the hole by thinking of an imaginary hole, one which is in a position further than the real hole actually is.
Secondly, once you have chosen a putt line which is clear in your mind, now you can pick a spot on the green again approximately 8 inches directly ahead of your ball and on the putt line. This process is known as 'spot aiming' and will help you to accurately align your putter face in to a square position and help your putts start on line more often, try it next time you have the opportunity and good luck.
