Our New Captain Mr Steve Jones drove in last Saturday.
He hit a very solid drive straight up the middle of the fairway under the pressure of 100+ on lookers!
Well done Mr Captain. I'd like to wish you all the very best for your year ahead.

We also have a new Lady Captain, Pam Mcgahan, Club President Mike Mason, and Junior Captain Jamie Parkes.
Good luck to all of you in your year!!
As the winter months approach and the weather becomes more inclement it's important that we all as members think about course conditions and take steps to protect the course from unnecessary wear and tear and damage.
By doing so it will aid a fast recovery of the course following the winter months and enable Mike and his Greens team to present the course in the best possible way as we move into Spring and the new golfing season.
Members Co-Operation:
12 Point Guideline
So what can we/do we need to do as members? Together with Mike Davie I have prepared a few guidelines which we would really appreciate that all members read, and action the steps they are able to, in order to support the above initiative and help protect our course through the winter season.
1. If you are able to, please carry your bag. James has a range of lightweight carry bags in the shop if you don't have one.
2. If you need to use a trolley it would be preferable for members, if able, to use a pull/push trolley rather than an electric one. Unfortunately electric trolleys & buggies, in winter, do tend to cause more damage.
3. If using a trolley of any description then please try to use a lighter bag and carry less in your bag to reduce the weight of the trolley. Do you need to keep using your large tour bag?
4. In particular, buggies & trolleys must stick to the paths as much as possible. So for that matter should people carrying. E.g. Please use the path to the left of the 8th pond. Do not cut across in front of the hut from the 8th Green to the 9th Tee (anyone doing so will be subject to a £1 fine for the Captains Charity) etc.
5. Where Greens staff have installed ropes to either direct golfers and/or protect areas please respect these areas and avoid ducking under to short cut. They have been placed where they are for a purpose.
6. Please be aware of particularly wet/muddy areas and as much as possible avoid walking through them. In particular avoid areas where the turf has bubbled in extremely wet periods.
7. Similarly on Tees please leave trolleys/bags to the sides, use steps where provided and avoid walking up/down the banks where you can. Particularly the steeper areas to avoid sliding and causing scars.
8. Continue to rake bunkers throughout the winter months.
9. When approaching the greens please give them a wider birth than normal to protect the fringes and look to place your trolleys/bags either on the paths alongside the greens (e.g. the 6th) or to the rear/side of greens where you exit for the next tee. This should be normal practice as it also helps speed up play.
10. As in previous years we will at some stage have a local rule allowing people to putt with the flag unattended to reduce wear and tear around the hole.
11. Knocking off excess debris from your shoes before walking on the greens is also helpful.
12. As always, please please repair divots and pitch marks.
Whilst the majority of these guidelines are common sense and quite simple to adhere to with little effort or inconvenience, it is surprising how many members forget or simply don't follow them.
All - Please think about and take responsibility for your own actions and if you see you colleagues and playing partners regress then please give them a gentle reminder.
Thanks in advance for your co-operation. I am confident that if we all implement these guidelines, it will help protect our course and enable us to present a "top class" Hazel Grove Golf Club course next season.

Verti Drain update
As from Monday November 9 the annual verti drain programme will commence. This will consist of 12mm solid tines on the greens and 18mm solid tines on the tees, aprons and fairways. The work will be undertaken in the following sequence.
Monday - The greens to be verti drained to a depth of 150mm with 12mm solid tines. Each green will be closed whilst work is being undertaken.
Tuesday - Completion of greens work. Tees to be verti drained with 18mm tines to a depth of 150mm The tee, where work is in progress, will be closed with alternative siting of the tee blocks. Once the tee has been completed the winter tee mat will be in play.
Wednesday - Completion of the tees followed by work commencing on the aprons/greens surrounds with 18mm solid tines to a similar depth as the tees.
The work on the fairways has been postponed due to the ground condition of the fairways. The contractor visited the course and using a compaction pressure gauge informed the club that the undertaking of the work would not be beneficial to the fairways at the moment therefore postponing until ground conditions allow.
We ask that all golfers give the contractor courtesy whilst undertaking the work in order for completion to be ASAP. We apologise for any inconvenience that may be caused but thank you in anticipation for your cooperation.
